Background
Welsh Gymnastics (WG) is the National Governing Body (NGB) for gymnastics in Wales. With a rich history spanning decades, Welsh Gymnastics continues to be a beacon of athleticism, skill development, and sportsmanship.
At its core, WG aims to nurture a love for gymnastics while nurturing talent and supporting athletes on their journey across all levels. Through an extensive network of clubs, coaches, and dedicated professionals, Welsh Gymnastics offers a supportive environment that fosters personal growth, physical well-being, and the development of life skills.
The NGB felt that their website didn’t promote the benefits of excitement of the sport to their target audience, and felt the brand had become dated. As they were set to go to the Commonwealth Games soon after, they wanted a rebrand project before heading to the games, with the new website being launched shortly afterward. Welsh Gymnastics wanted the new website to have clear user journeys for the different audience groups; children learning gymnastics in schools/ clubs, parents of children involved in gymnastics, professional/ competing gymnasts, instructors, trainers, and businesses. They were looking to update their website to a modern design that engaged their users and members through effective UI/UX.
Our Approach
All of our projects at WebBox are thoroughly and methodically planned. Our approach to this project was Agile-based, and our team collaborated closely with Welsh Gymnastics to understand their goals and requirements for the new website. Our team proposed redesigning WG's website with a custom theme to address their issues. We then moved on to the design phase, where we created page layouts keeping in mind the branding, positioning, graphics, accessibility, user experience, and call to actions. For WG, we also created new logo concepts, typefaces, colour palettes, and brand guidelines. Throughout the process, we used Agile methodologies such as daily standups, iterative feedback loops, and sprint-based development. Following the completion of the design process, our development team verified that the website was built in accordance with the scope, designs, and project plan. Following that, extensive internal testing across all key devices and browsers was carried out. The testing process was critical for incorporating any feedback received, ensuring that the website is search engine optimised, and that proper tracking is in place. Finally, after all of the testing and CMS training, the website went live!
